12 Blogging Tips for Beginners That Work :

Would you like to start a blog? Or have you started and then felt stuck?

In this post, I will be sharing 12 blogging tips for beginners that work, that I wished I knew when I started.

When it comes to blogging, I believe for fellow bloggers we can all agree that’s it no child’s play. From the process of researching for your topics and making sure they rank well on Google, creating content and publishing consistently to networking and more, blogging is definitely hard work.

1. Find your Niche.

What does this mean?

It means deciding on what aspect you want to focus on, you can choose to be a lifestyle blogger, entertainment blogger, food blogger, health blogger, fashion blogger, or politics, etc. The list is actually endless, so whichever one works for you find it and own it.

This is to help you stand out since you’re just beginning and also help you grow your readers.

Later, once your blog has gained enough traction, you can now start blogging about other topics that you like.

2. Write about what people are searching for.

This means it’s not just enough to have a topic in mind that you will like to write about but are people searching for that information and if they’re what words are they using in their search.

The best way to do this is to use a keyword research tool, there are lots of paid and free versions out there but you can start by using the Google keyword research tool to generate ideas.

3. create content that aligns with search intent.

How can I figure out search intent? We figure this out using Google, since Google works to show the most relevant results, you can use this to your advantage. Just take a look at the top 10 results for your chosen topic, and see what types of pages are currently ranking and how the headlines are written.

4. Create worthy-referencing content.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Is your content (article) unique?
  • Did you present ideas, opinions, or point-of-views that nobody else has talked about or talked about differently with another perspective?
  • Will people cite, quote, or link to your article?
  • Will people share and talk about it?

If the answer is yes, then you’ve done a great job.
If not, then you need to go back to the writing-table.

5. Write amazing and catchy headlines.

People will likely read your blog if your headline is catchy or attractive since most people discover content via search on social media.

That doesn’t mean that you should be writing click-bait headlines but that you should understand how headlines work so that when people see your headlines they want to read the whole article.

6. Ask for feedback.

This is very important. It helps your writing to get better and can also help you grow as a writer.

If you write with a group of people, the head of the team or everyone can always give each other feedback on the things they have written and if you don’t,  you can always ask for feedback from your readers or from other writers in your niche, that way you’re always open to correction and growth.

7. Reach out to other bloggers.

This is something I’m still working on myself. Since we can all agree that blogging is hard work can be challenging then we should always be ready to take all the help that we can get.

It’s always best to reach out and form relationships with one another. They can give advice, offer help, contribute insights, promote you, or link to you—and they can share your content with their followers and you can self-promote each other.

8. Build an Email list.

The best way to grow your community is to have an email list that people can subscribe to.
Having a Facebook page or a YouTube channel is never enough as these are hosted on third-party platforms and you can be yanked away from it anytime or those platforms can be banned or suspended in your home country just like Twitter was suspended here in Nigeria.

For as long as your community of people is subscribed to you, you can communicate with them anytime.

How do you build an email list?

1. Traffic

2. Offer something of value

To do that, i.e offering something of value in return for subscribing, you can offer to send them more engaging content they loved right into their inbox or you can offer them ebooks, software, coupons. Etc.


The point is to get creative with whatever it is you’re offering.

9. Promote your content on online platforms and communities.

This is definitely a no-brainer. Your content should be shared and promoted on online communities where your target audience hangs out. They could be communities on Facebook groups, Slack, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, forums, etc.

10. Write Guest posts for other blogs.

If you want to gain traction and grow your blog, don’t just write for your blog, volunteer to write and contribute for other blogs.

Make use of the authority and following of other blogs to drive traffic, links, and build your brand.

11. Keep a Journal.

This Journal will be for ideas, quotes, anecdotes, observations, and information you come across during your everyday life and pursuits.

The purpose of the book is to record and organize these gems for later use in your life, in your business, in your writing, speaking, or whatever it is that you do.

12. Write Every day.

To write well, you have to practice frequently.

It doesn’t have to be anything spectacular or nerve-racking. The idea behind writing every day is to build a habit of putting words to paper and also help you become a better writer.

It need not be a blog post—it could be a Facebook update, tweet, blog comment, email, or something else.
